Historical background
La Maison d’Ulysse is a « Mas » (typical provencale farmhouse) dating back to the XVIIth Century. It is an old walled silkworm farmhouse built on a mulberry field. La Maison d’Ulysse was the place where the poet and archeologist Ulysse Dumas (1872-1909) was born. This local historical character was keen on archeology and discovered some important prehistorical evidence in the region. He was a member of the Nîmes Academy and the French Prehistory Society. He was buried on his own land following the « Cévennes camisards » (Cévennes protestants) tradition.
